New Toddy Policy in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh state government has come up with a new policy of Toddy for the period of 2017-2022 years. (“New Toddy Policy in Andhra Pradesh”)

The new policy allows the toddy tappers to sell their products in 100 km radius. Earlier policy allows the tappers to sell their products only till 50k radius. AP Toddy Tappers Finance Corporation has also decided to stop collecting annual rent from toddy tappers.

The new policy would grant right to sell toddy to Tappers Cooperative Society and Tree for Tappers to the STs in scheduled areas for next five years. It is also decided to grow Palmyra palm trees and other varieties of palm on the coast of AP.

The Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise will fix the number of toddy shops based on the requirement and of respective areas. The collection of toddy rents, which is Rs. 25 per tree in rural areas and Rs. 50 per tree in urban areas per annum, is abolished

There are 85000 registered toddy tappers in the state, and the new policy would help them to tap toddy anywhere in the state under the new policy.

State government is often blamed about developing the Liquor sector in the state but the new policy is aimed at reducing this blame. As one cannot change people’s drinking habits but we can at least try to make available drinks that have less alcohol.
